Marriott Hotels and Resorts unveiled its hip new room design — its first in 10 years — with a live billboard in Times Square Sept. 21. The mSpot billboard, a life-sized Marriott guest room that doubles as a soundstage, features live entertainment from musicians such as Ciara, Antigone Rising and Collective Soul, and morning workout sessions with Marriott fitness gurus.
“It celebrates the road warrior and engages the next generation of Marriott customers,” says John Marriott, executive vice president of lodging. Over the next five years, Marriott expects to spend $5 billion updating existing rooms to mSpot standards, which create a residential feel with clean lines and uncluttered surfaces. Each room is equipped with “plug and play” technology, including iPods, laptop hookups and a 32-inch HDTV. Virtual tours of mSpot rooms may be viewed at experiencemarriott.com.
