Salamander Hotels and Resorts is raising its profile and expanding its portfolio with two international acquisitions in the Dominican Republic.

On Oct. 1, the five-star Fishing Lodge Cap Cana is expected to open with 302 one- to three-bedroom villas. An infinity pool corridor that connects some of the villas allows guests to swim door to door. Other amenities include 6,000 square feet of meeting space, a marina, a private beach, four pools, a fitness center and a chapel that is available for destination weddings. Surrounding the resort will be a village with boutique shops and restaurants arranged along a “Rainbow Row”-style Main Street.

A second Dominican Republic-based property, the boutique-style Ocean Club Cap Cana, is scheduled to open in 2012 with 92 rooms.

Other hotels in the Salamander portfolio include the intimate, five-star Woodlands Inn near Charleston, the Innisbrook Golf & Spa Resort outside Tampa and the Salamander Resort and Spa, which is scheduled to open near Washington, D.C., in 2013.
