The relationship between hotels and meeting planners doesn’t have to be antagonistic. But it’s easy for conflicts to form when both parties are operating under different assumptions of what has value during contract negotiations. That’s why Michael Dominguez’s educational presentation at PYM LIVE Atlanta II 2012 focused on defining what the “new abnormal” in the industry is and how hotels make their money. After all, he said, “Hotels are not a nonprofit organization.”

In addition to education, the planners in attendance at the Loews Atlanta-based event also got to experience the hotel’s amazingly picturesque event space, legendary hospitality and scrumptious food. We tried out a couple of new elements at the event, too: speed-dating during the trade show and a team-building game to give away door prizes. After the event, Hard Rock Cafe Atlanta hosted an afterparty.
