Quito, Ecuador’s capital city, was named host of the 37th annual Travel Mart Latin America in September 2013. More than 1,000 attendees are expected.
City representatives, along with more than 40 destination management companies, attended the 2012 TMLA to promote the city’s new tourism offerings, including its soon-to-open state-of-the-art convention center; the country’s luxe new train, the Ferrocarriles del Ecuador; and the new international airport, scheduled to open in early 2013.
The conference will spotlight the city’s history. Colonial Quito is a quaint city with up-to-date infrastructure and modern services. Visitors usually take advantage of its gastronomy and diverse landscape, which offers nature walks, birdwatching, hiking, biking and ecological tourism activities. Quito also is home to the Avenue of the Volcanoes and the Middle of the World Monument.
TMLA 2013 will be Quito’s second international tourism event; the first was the 2012 World Tourism Organization’s 54th WTO Americas Meeting. More than 400 guests from 25 countries attended, helping Quito put itself on the map as an international meetings destination.
