Birmingham, Ala., has won the bid to host the Religious Conference Management Association’s convention in 2015, beating out 24 others cities. RMCA, established in 1972, is considered one of the most prestigious organizations for planners of faith-based meetings. Members represent more than 800 religious organizations and are responsible for planning 14,000 conventions, meetings and assemblies, which attract more than 11 million participants annually. This year the four-day event took place in Minneapolis; it heads to Sacramento, Calif., in February 2014. According to the Greater Birmingham Convention & Visitors Bureau, faith-based meetings are one of the most lucrative markets for the Birmingham area.
