Follow I-75 20 miles northwest of Atlanta, and you'll come to Cobb County and the cities of Marietta, Smyrna and Kennesaw. Just inside the Perimeter is Vinings, a popular shopping, dining and entertainment district. Marietta has major convention hotels and facilities, including the Cobb Galleria Complex, which has a 144,000-sq. ft. exhibit hall, and the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre, home to the Atlanta Opera and the groundbreaking Atlanta Ballet. The Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centrepresents Broadway shows, ballet, concerts, educational shows, family performances and opera in its 2,750-seat theater, which may be booked for special events. Its ballroom, courtyard and terrace also are available for group functions. Mansour Center, Cobb County’s contemporary conference center, can host groups of five to 350 people. The facility has 8,000 square feet of meeting/event space, including four classrooms, a banquet room and a 20-station computer lab.
Let groups loose at Dave & Buster’s to enjoy action, arcade or dance games, or pull the crew together with an organized team challenge in one of the on-site meeting facilities. Options include Mission Task Force or interactive murder mysteries. Jimmy’s Mad Mad Whirled has Whirleyball, laser tag and other challenges included in its corporate team-building packages.

Kennesaw’s Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History is a Smithsonian Institution affiliate with a one-of-a-kind collection of Civil War uniforms and weapons. The museum is available for breakfast events, evening receptions, board meetings, corporate barbecues and other private functions; additional services include re-enactors, storytellers, costumed tour guides, and Civil War-era music played by a string or bass band. The Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park, where General Sherman began the Atlanta Campaign, has interpretive programs and exhibits, hiking trails and picnic areas. The Marlow House, located just off Marietta Square, is a charming Victorian home and courtyard available for meetings, banquets and cocktail parties.
The Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum: Scarlett on the Square (capacity 100 seated, 250 reception-style) houses a collection of artifacts related to the movie and the book, including costumes worn in the film, Margaret Mitchell’s personal copies of the novel and an educational display dedicated to the film’s African-American cast. The museum is one of several “Gone With the Wind” sites, including the Road to Tara Museum and Landmarks Through History Tour in Jonesboro, and the Margaret Mitchell House in Atlanta. Theatre in the Square is one of Atlanta’s top theater companies, and is within walking distance of several restaurants. Marietta also is an easy place to create a golf tournament or antiques shopping tour, or find an antebellum home for an afternoon tea party.
The 198-room Hilton Atlanta/Marietta Conference Center & Resort not only is close to Atlanta city limits, it’s also adjacent to an 18-hole championship golf course at the City Club. The Hilton has 20,000 square feet of indoor meeting space and 10,000 square feet of outdoor event space. There is a conference room for small groups at the City Club.
