The Ritz-Carlton is now managing the 250-room Al Bustan Palace in Muscat, Oman. The property has five meeting rooms, 200 acres of landscaped gardens and a private beach.
Finnair will introduce a direct route to Chongqing, China, in 2012. Finnair is the first airline to open a direct flight route from Europe to Chongqing.
Blanacaneaux Lodge and Turtle Inn have joined the Sustainable Tourism Program led by the Rainforest Alliance and Sustainable Tourism Eco-Certification Program. Both properties are implementing a stainless steel bottle program to reduce to plastic water bottle waste by guests and organic gardens that supply the produce used in their restaurants.
Hilton Garden Inn opened the company’s first hotel in South America, the Hilton Garden Inn Santiago Airport. The 144-room property has a full-service restaurant, swimming pool, spa, fitness and business center, and 4,500 square feet of meeting space.
The 365-room Jaipur Marriott Hotel opened last month with seven food and beverage outlets and 43,000 square feet of meeting space. The hotel also features a 10,000-sq. ft spa and fitness area.
The 611-room Westin Playa Bonita Panama is scheduled to open in October. The country’s first Westin will boast 65,000 square feet of meeting space, seven restaurants, four bars, a gym and four pools.
The InterContinental Porto-Palacio das Cardosas opened last month. The 105-room hotel is the first InterContinental property in the country. It has 2,000 square feet of meeting space.
The Wyndham Garden at Palmas del Mar opened with 107 rooms, 6,000 square feet of meeting and event space, a business center, a fitness center, a casino, a restaurant and a wine bar.
The 294-room Wyndham Sugar Bay Resort & Spa is now the Sugar Bay Resort & Spa.
Hyatt Hotels and Noble Investment Group entered a joint venture that will invest $80 million in developing Hyatt Place and Hyatt Summerfield Suites hotels throughout America. The venture acquired eight hotels for $110 million, and will allot about $48 million for new projects.
Continental and United Airlines plan to merge their loyalty programs into Mileage Plus, United’s loyalty program, by 2012. Continental’s OnePass members will automatically be enrolled in Mileage Plus. All reward miles, elite qualifying miles and elite qualifying segments will remain the same after the merge.
The Hotel Theodore in Scottsdale is undergoing renovations. The 195-room property is scheduled to reopen in October as The Drinkwater with eight meeting rooms and a restaurant.
Burbank’s Hotel Amarano is expanding. The project will add 32 guest rooms and a pool to the boutique hotel. Plans include for the existing fitness center to be relocated to the new wing and for its former space to be converted into a 1,000-sq. ft. suite with its own spa and private terrace.
Crown Plaza San Jose Downtown will undergo a $7 million renovation. During that time the hotel will operate as the Convention Plaza Hotel and will reopen as the Hyatt Place San Jose Downtown in January 2012.
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide opened the Sheraton Stamford Hotel in the heart of the downtown Stamford. The hotel has 13,000 square feet of meeting space.
District of Columbia
The Hyatt on Capitol Hill in is slated to become a Sheraton by September. An affiliate of Driftwood Hospitality Management LLC agreed to purchase the hotel for $19.5 million. Once the deal closes, the new owners plan to complete a $10 million renovation.
The Renaissance World Golf Village Resort and Convention Center in St. Augustine now has a UPS Store and business center on-site.
Atlanta Perimeter Hotel & Suites (formerly the W Atlanta-Perimeter) has retained its staff and amenities despite its new branding.
The Atlanta Marriott Perimeter Center is undergoing a $22 million renovation. The rebranding and expansion project will add a bar, update guest rooms and add a new restaurant and lounge area.
The first U.S. Raddison Blu is scheduled to open later this year in Chicago. The 334-room hotel will have 28,592 square feet of meeting space, a restaurant and bar, a full-service spa, and a health and fitness center.
Sojourner-Douglass College plans to develop a $22 million, 150-room hotel with the help of Parkway Hospitality Management in Baltimore. They are planning for a spring 2013 groundbreaking. When complete (date TBD), the hotel will help train the college’s hospitality students.
Four Seasons Baltimore is slated to open in late 2011. The 301-room hotel will have 22,035 square feet of meeting space, a spa and restaurant.
Hilton Hotels & Resorts has ended a licensing agreement with the Atlantic City Hilton Casino Resort that allowed the property to use the name. The property now calls itself ACH.
Tropicana Casino and Resort in Atlantic City is finishing a $5 million project to create 26 new suites out of 88 pre-existing guest rooms. The suites will offer with round-the-clock butler and concierge service, wet bars and other amenities.
Manhattan’s Hotel Chelsea is scheduled to get a new retail space, reconfigured rooms, an expanded lobby and possibly another restaurant as part of an upgrade being planned by its new owner, Gwathmey Siegal Kaufman & Associates.
The Nolitan is scheduled to open this October in Manhattan. The 55-room boutique-style hotel will have a 2 p.m. checkout time, a business center and a rooftop event space for to 125 attendees.
Central Restaurant will open this September at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. The restaurant will serve American cuisine with a French twist and be open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Northview Hotel Group’s Brasada Ranch in Powell Butte finished a $3 million renovation that added a new restaurant, a full-service spa and youth activity center as well as expanded the equestrian program and athletic center.
The Carolina First Center in Greenville will be rebranded the TD Convention Center.
Horseshoe Bay Resort, near Austin, opened Summit Rock, a Jack Nicklaus Signature golf course.
The George R. Brown Convention Center in Houston has earned LEED Silver certification. The convention center’s green initiatives include adding solar panels to its roof, cutting water usage, recycling waste materials and making building operations more efficient.
Will Rogers Memorial Center in Fort Worth has teamed up with Reata Restaurants to open Reata at the Backstage and La Espuela Mexican Cantina. Reata at the Backstage will begin year-round service on an as-needed basis beginning Aug. 23. La Espuela Mexican Cantina will be operational for feature events.
