Meeting Professionals International, the largest global meeting and event industry association, acquired Plan Your Meetings, a U.S.-based media company providing education and resources to corporate meeting and event planners.
The PYM audience represents a huge slice of the meetings market — more than 90,000 mostly corporate American meeting and event planners — that flies under the radar because they tend to be executive assistants, administrative professionals and other workers who plan meetings and events but don’t have that job title. PYM was founded to provide those individuals with the education, inspiration, business connections and resources they need to plan better meetings and events.
“The nontitled, DIY planner is responsible for the majority of the meetings planned in corporate America,” says Tom Casey, PYM’s founder and president and CEO of its former parent company Atlanta Metropolitan Publishing Inc. “For 20 years, we’ve nurtured and developed this important niche, providing them with top-notch education and networking opportunities. Marrying PYM’s community to MPI fulfills our big, audacious goal to unite the meetings industry and make it better. By bringing entry-level, midcareer and senior-level meeting professionals together, we hope to create more opportunities for cross-generational mentorships, the establishment of industrywide standards and a unified community so professional and well-respected that the value of meetings and events will no longer be called into question by the media, politicians or C-level executives.”
Known for its future-forward approach to technology integration, design thinking and creating inclusive event communities, PYM will continue to operate as a standalone division of MPI, offering its innovative blend of education, community and inspiration online, at PYM LIVE Events and in its annual meeting planning guide to its audience as well as MPI’s.
PYM planners will be invited to join MPI’s prestigious international community of meeting professionals, which will give them greater access to the professional training they need to advance in their careers and enhance their professional network of global business contacts. Membership also will connect them to MPI’s community of 18,500 meeting professionals who belong to 80 local chapters and clubs in 22 countries.
