The results from the latest IMEX America Index of Optimism survey show a very slight increase of 1 percent (to a total of 68 percent) in optimism levels among a sampling of 400 North American meetings industry buyers and suppliers. Here are a few more numbers:
The volume of meetings, events incentives: 55 percent of respondents expect it to increase slightly (6 percent expect a significant increase, 32 percent expect a consistent rate). In the first quarter of the year, those numbers were 59 percent, 8.5 percent and 22 percent, respectively.
Budget expectations: 27 percent say they have remained steady, 16 percent saw slight reductions and 48 percent saw slight increases.
ROI, cost cutting and green meetings: When asked to rate six factors in order of their influence on the meetings and event business, 38 percent ranked “how to demonstrate ROI in way that my management understands” as most important. Cutting costs ranked first among 37 percent of respondents. The need to plan greener meetings and events was third.
