Plan Your Meetings is sad to share the news that Atlanta-based meeting planner Debbie DeMarco, 43, died unexpectedly Nov. 13, 2013. She was working on-site at a conference, doing what she loved most, according to Meeting Professionals International’s Georgia Chapter.
Deborah Ann DeMarco, a certified meeting planner, was born July 24, 1970, in Trenton, N.J., where the funeral took place. She grew up in Hamilton Square, N.J., according to NJ.com, and earned a bachelor’s degree from Marymount University in Arlington, Va. After college, she worked in Washington, D.C. She moved to Atlanta in 1995, working for the Atlanta Commercial Board of Realtors and as a senior meeting planner for McKinsey and Co. Global Concepts Office. In 2012, she founded her own company, Premier Event Professionals LLC in Atlanta.
Debbie was a member of MPI, GaMPI and the Senior Planners Industry Network, according to her LinkedIn profile. Awards she’s won include GaMPI 2013 Committee of the Year, GaMPI 2012 Meeting Planner of the Year and GaMPI 2012 Shining Star. She also was one of PYM’s AllStars, who contributed her thoughts and passions during Atlanta-based roundtables and PYM LIVE Events.
“Debbie was a valued member, colleague and a friend that lit up a room with her energy and professionalism,” her GaMPI friends said in a statement. “It is an understatement she will be missed but never forgotten.”
Debbie is survived by her parents, Richard and Stephanie DeMarco of Yardville, N.J.; sister and brother-in-law Donna DeMarco and John Povalac of Ellicott City, Md.; sister and brother-in-law Dana and Michael Ferrise of Folcroft, Penn.; a niece and nephew; and aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and colleagues. No cause of death has been cited.
