Better planning through technology

May 28, 2010 by Kristi Casey Sanders Leave a Comment

If you don’t know the difference between a 3,000 lumen and a 5,000 lumen projector, you’re not alone. Many meeting professionals find event technology daunting and difficult to keep up with. In this PYM Knowledge Series video, a panel of experts, moderated by Jeff Hurt of Velvet Chainsaw Consulting, discuss and demystify several areas of meeting technology. From cost-saving audio/visual tips to things that seem more at home in a science fiction novel, like self-cleaning tablecloths and augmented reality, they share their ideas for how planners can use technology to enhance events without breaking the bank. Featuring Dr. James Hogg of the University of Central Florida, Keith Johnston of Plannerwire and OnSite Events and Chance Carpenter of Essential Event Technologies and Leverage Point Consulting.

Funny – I wonder what was so difficult about explaining the lumens of a projector!
It’s simply a measure of brightness; a lumen is a unit of measurement (like a kilowatthour for energy or horsepower for a motor).

Not difficult to explain. But for a lot of planners, it’s emblematic of the kind of detail they’re asked to make a decision on that may be strange and unfamiliar — and the kind of things you’re so good at demystifying in your AV Girl columns.
