Motel 6 is revolutionizing the idea of the roadside motel. Without raising the per-night cost to travelers, which averaged $45 last year, the chain is remodeling rooms, adding granite bathroom countertops, flat-screen TVs, WiFi access, MP3 and laptop docking stations, as well as trendy, minimalist linens and décor.
The chain’s dramatic reinvention has influenced Super 8 and Red Roof Inns to create similar plans. Renovations are scheduled to begin this summer on existing properties. An additional 240 Motel 6 hotels are scheduled to open by 2010.
