InterContinental Hotels Group, with 270 hotels in the Asia-Pacific region, is planning to more than double that number to 600 properties over the next several years.
Four Points by Sheraton opened locations in Lagos, Nigeria (222 rooms); Galveston, Texas (118 rooms); and Tucson, Ariz.(150 rooms). In November, the company will open properties in Tripoli, Libya (205 rooms); Bangkok, Thailand (268 rooms); and Tai’an, China (311 rooms).
Wyndham Worldwide will acquire ResortQuest, a leading provider in full-service vacation rentals, by June 2011.
China
YTL Hotels will open the perpetual motion restaurant Shook! in November, in Shanghai’s Swatch Art Peace Hotel.

Costa Rica
The Westin Playa Conchal Resort & Spa, the first all-inclusive resort in Starwood Hotel & Resorts’ profile, will open in May 2011. The resort will have 406 guest rooms.
Croatia
Located on Split’s Adriatic Sea coast, the new Radisson Blu Resort has 189 guest rooms and approximately 6,000 square feet of meeting space.
Curacao (Netherlands Antilles)
The Hyatt Regency Curaçao Golf Resort, Spa and Marina opened with 350 rooms and 36,000 square feet of event space.
Ecuador
Red Mangrove Galapagos Lodges changed its name to Red Mangrove Galapagos and Ecuador Lodges. The company manages four lodges, with one in mainland Ecuador and the other three on multiple islands in the Galapagos.
France
The Hotel W Paris – Opera, opening in July, will have 90 guest rooms and more than 1,000 square feet of event space.
Panama
Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide is planning to open two Westin properties in Panama. The Westin Playa Bonita Panama, with more than 600 rooms and 36,000 square feet of event space, will open in October 2011. The Westin Panama Hotel, to debut in 2012, will have 200 rooms and meeting space.
Riu Panama Plaza in Panama City opened with 645 guest rooms and over 53,000 square feet of event space.
Russia
Marriott International is planning to open another 25 hotels across Russia in cities such as Ufa, Irkutsk, Krasnoyarks, Krasnodar and Moscow in the next few years.
Doubletree by Hilton opened its first hotel in Russia in Novosibirsk, Siberia. The hotel features 188 guest rooms and more than 7,500 square feet of meeting space.
Turkey
The Le Meridien Istanbul Etiler will open in 2011 with 260 guest rooms and over 18,000 square feet of meeting space.
United Arab Emirates
The Atlantis The Palm in Dubai joined Associated Luxury Hotels International. With 1,539 guest rooms and more than 60,000 square feet of meeting space, the resort is the largest conference venue in Dubai.
National
Arizona
The Westin Phoenix Downtown is scheduled to open in March 2011 with 242 guest rooms and 10,000 square feet of meeting space.
California
The Highlands Inn in Carmel was reflagged the Hyatt Carmel Highlands.
Colorado
Sage Hospitality is now managing the Denver Airport Marriott at Gateway Park, which has 227 guest rooms and 6,000 square feet of meeting space.
The Four Seasons Hotel Denver opened with 239 rooms and 17,000 square feet of meeting space.
Florida
After completing a multi-million dollar renovation, the Sheraton Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel will open Dos Caminos, a Mexican restaurant, in November. The hotel also offers 486 rooms and 7,500 square feet of meeting space.
Homewood Suites by Hilton Bonita Springs in southwest Florida opened with 106 suites.
The Peabody Orlando has completed a massive $450 million renovation and expansion project that added a 32-story guest room tower, a 22,000-sq. ft. spa and fitness center, 300,000 square feet of state-of-the-art flexible function space, new restaurant and lounge space, and pools. The expanded property now has 1,641 luxurious guest rooms, a 54,652-sq. ft.pillar free ballroom, a 75,000-sq. ft. rotunda and 99 break-out rooms that are connected to the Orange County Convention Center by a skybridge.
Omni Hotels & Resorts rebranded the former Amelia Island Plantation as Omni Amelia Island Plantation. The resort has 249 guest rooms and 49,000 square feet of versatile meeting space.
Georgia
The former Marriott Renaissance is now Melia Atlanta, which has 479 guest rooms and over 31,000 square feet of meeting space.
Hawaii
Hyatt Hotels and Starwood Capital Group are developing the Andaz Wailea Resort and Residences on Mokapu Beach in Maui. The hotel, which will open in late 2012, will have 290 rooms and meeting space.
The Waikiki EDITION, a Marriott Brand, opened in Honolulu with 322 rooms and 18,000 square feet of meeting space.
Indiana
Staybridge Suites opened in South Bend as the first Staybridge Suites hotel in the Hotel Equities portfolio. It has 90 guest rooms.
Nevada
PetStay Las Vegas, a pet-friendly hotel program from Caesars Palace, Imperial Palace and Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, allows guests to check into hotel rooms with their dog and offers dog travel amenities.
In an agreement with Steiner Leisure Limited, a global spa provider, Harrah’s Cherokee Casino & Hotel will open the 18,000 square-foot Mandara Spa as the culmination of their $633 million resort expansion. The property will also have a third hotel tower, new restaurants and entertainment spaces when expansion is finished in 2012. It currently has 576 rooms and a 15,000 square-foot conference center.
New Jersey
Hilton Hotels & Resorts launched its new spa concept, Eforea: Spa at Hilton at the Hilton Short Hills. The hotel also offers 304 guest rooms and more than 5,000 square feet of meeting space.
New Mexico
The Hotel Parq Central in Alberquerque, NM, opened with 74 guest rooms and 2,600 square feet of flexible meeting space.
New York
The 174-room Algonquin Hotel in New York City joined the Autograph Collection, which comprises upper-upscale, independent hotels and resorts.
Aloft Harlem will open in early December with 124 guest rooms.
The Embassy Suites Hotel in Battery Park will convert to the Conrad brand in early 2011.
Wyndham Hotels’ Tryp brand will open its first North American property in Manhattan in mid-2011. The hotel will have 173 guest rooms.
The Sheraton Tribeca opened in Manhattan with 369 rooms and 1,000 square feet of flexible meeting space.
North Carolina
The Ritz Carlton Charlotte received the AAA Five Diamonds Award. It has 146 rooms and more than 12,000 square feet of meeting space.
Pennsylvania
The Courtyard Pittsburgh Settlers Ridge/Robinson Township opened with 108 rooms and 1,324 square feet of meeting space.
Kimpton Hotels is planning to transform Philadelphia’s Lafayette Building into a 270-room Monaco hotel.
Tennessee
Real estate investment firm Jamestown opened Space, a 7,400 square foot event venue in Chattanooga’s Warehouse Row.
Texas
The Watermark Hotel & Spa in San Antonio, Tex., was rebranded as the Mokara Hotel & Spa, the first of a new collection of luxury boutique properties from Omni Hotels & Resorts. The property has 99 guest rooms and 3,600 square feet of flexible event space.
The first Best Western Premier in North America opened in Denton, Texas, with 74 guest rooms and nearly 2,000 square feet of meeting space.
Utah
The 199-room Park City Marriott in Utah opened its new 2,072 square-foot meeting room, bringing its total available meeting space up to 19,722 square feet.
Virginia
Opening in early winter 2011, the Inn at Willow Grove in Virginia’s horse and wine country will have 11 guest rooms and suites.
Washington
The Salish Cliffs Golf Club, an extension of Little Creek Casino Resort near Olympia, Wash., is on schedule to open in late spring 2011. The resort has 190 rooms and 5,000 square feet of event space.
Wyoming
The Lodge & Spa at Brusch Creek Ranch opened in Saratoga, Wyo. with 34 rooms and over 8,000 square feet of meeting space.
