You already know the importance of going mobile when it comes to planning and executing an event. Yet, given how fast things change in the mobile and social media worlds, there’s more you need to know to have a fantastic fall event season.
Connect via mobile event apps, email
If you don’t already employ mobile event planning and management tools, you might want to use the summer slowdown to get familiar with them. These days, attendees expect to register and check in through their smartphones. So, you’ll want to accommodate them with an app that has both features.
Also, because you know they’re on their devices throughout the event, you want to be sure that your event email updates display properly. Take note that the call-to-action buttons are large enough to accommodate fingers and that the text is clear enough to alert attendees to last-minute changes.
The impact of mobile on search and social media
Recent changes to Twitter and the increasing popularity of Facebook on mobile devices present great opportunities for event planners to reach a wider audience.
In May, Google announced a partnership with Twitter, where tweets will now appear in search results. Use this news to your advantage.
First, make sure that your event hashtag is specific and succinct. Highlight it in your promotional materials and encourage attendees to use it in the weeks leading to and throughout the event.
You can extend the life of your event by adding an additional hashtag for each track or session. But don’t include more than two hashtags per tweet. This way, your audience can keep up with the conversations, wherever they are and whenever they see them.
It’s no surprise that more attendees are logging onto Facebook through their mobile devices. There are ways beyond setting up a Facebook event page that will boost awareness and better manage your event through your mobile Facebook app. Highlight your content so that it appears at the top of the news feed. You can do this through a simple, five-second process:
- Log on to your Facebook account.
- Hover your mouse over the right corner of the post to which you want to draw attention. A downward arrow will appear.
- Click on the arrow button and select “Pin to top” from the drop-down menu. This moves your post to the top of your Timeline.
- Also, encourage attendees to check in online using your event hashtag when they arrive. As you know, check-ins help spread the word online.
- Remember to fill in your event location on your Facebook event page profile. When you do this, it will appear in the photos posted by attendees and staff.
To manage Facebook event page activity, view insights and respond to attendees all from your phone, just download the free “Pages Manager” app from the iTunes or Google Play store.
It’s amazing how easy it can be to manage an entire event right from your pocket. When you have powerful yet simple-to use-event apps and insider tips on mobile marketing, you can’t help but have a successful event.
