American citizens, lawful permanent residents of the U.S. and citizens of select countries are now eligible for a new “trusted traveler” program set up to expedite the passage of frequent international travelers through customs.
Created and administered by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection agency, the Global Entry program requires applicants to schedule an in-person interview and submit biometric information. If accepted into the program, participants may bypass the airport passport line at select U.S. and international airports by using an airport kiosk to answer customs declaration questions. The non-refundable application fee is $100. If accepted, membership in the program is good for five years.
