The Green Meeting Industry Council is launching a Certificate in Sustainable Event Planning program designed to create a new class of sustainable-event practitioners. The students will be charged with creating, guiding and implementing the sustainability goals and performance outcomes for the 2014 Sustainable Meetings Conference in San Francisco in April next year.
Adult learners who participate on-site will be recognized as the Conference Green Team and earn a GMIC Certificate in Sustainable Meetings Planning. They will present their case study findings to the greater GMIC community and, ideally, walk away with the knowledge, tools and confidence to implement green meetings and events at the highest level.
The GMIC course includes 40 hours of instruction and application plus on-site fieldwork. Most of the program is online and includes conference calls, Adobe Connect, Google HangOut, Google Drive, small group work, interview processes, homework and quizzes. Continuing Education Unit credits will be available.
Some pre-course work is involved. The first of eight modules begins Oct. 8. Course work ends May 20, 2014. The program is $1,200 for GMIC members and $1,500 for non-members. Both fees include one registration to the 2014 conference.
