As we are happily heading into spring the one thought that goes through people’s minds is how do we shed our winter “coats” (a.k.a. pounds)? In this morsel, I am going to share a couple of food ideas that will leave your attendees grateful for having food options that are clever, healthy and tasty.
- Fruit. One item that frustrates me as a food buyer is sliced fresh fruit trays. No matter where you are working in the country they are pretty much the same. Here is an idea for making it a touch different: Present the fruit diced instead of sliced in individual bowls. If your budget allows, use mango, papaya, an assortment of berries and pineapple, put it in a waffle cup, and have a variety of nuts, whipped cream and flavored syrups available as toppings.
- Trail mix bar. I love doing this for coffee breaks – Have a variety of items that your guests can make their own trail mix. Don’t forget to include a variety of dried snacks and for those with a sweet tooth include chocolate morsels.
- Salty snack. Serve fresh, steamed edamame beans with a variety of seasoning salt toppings.
- Water. Many hotels are offering gallons jugs of water with seasonal fruit. This is an inexpensive way to have an attractive water presentation, be green and hydrate.
Folks, let’s keep adding to this list. I invite you to include your own items in the comments section of your favorite low-cal options.
That is my low-fat story for now — and I will be sticking to it.
