For a taste of what’s new in hotel technology, check into the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa at the Convention Center in Alabama, which opened last month. In-room technology includes wireless, touch-screen telephones, high-definition LCD televisions and a connectivity panel for iPods, laptops and digital cameras. Guests can book spa appointments and tee times through the television, or watch first-run Hollywood movies on-demand.
A WiFi cloud with 168 access points covers the entire property, from its parking lot to the on-site Performing Arts Centre and convention center. In addition to Ethernet connections, floor boxes in the exhibit hall and connection points in the meeting rooms and ballrooms have fiber optic connections capable of providing 10 GB network connections. VoIP (voice over Internet protocol) and IP TV (Internet protocol television) services also are available to groups.
