At a recent global owners meeting in Orlando, Hilton Worldwide distributed iPads to 1,700 attendees staying at the Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek and Waldorf Astoria Orlando hotels.
Preloaded with a “virtual concierge” app, the iPads allowed attendees to schedule wake-up calls, request housekeeping, arrange transportation, make dinner reservations and even request drinks be brought to them poolside. During the conference, more than 400 requests were made.
The iPads also were used to replace traditional printed materials, such as the agenda, hotel information and property maps. A Paperless Meeting app featured business plans, excerpts from speakers’ books and a daily video about scheduled activities. The use of the iPads reduced the meeting’s paper consumption by 70 percent, saving an estimated 50 trees.
To encourage attendee interaction, the iPads were set up to allow guests to instant-message each other and ask questions of Hilton Worldwide executives. During the conference, attendees engaged in more than 10,000 instant-messaging sessions.
