Of course there’s a virtual option. It’s easily the most carbon-neutral way to participate in a conference. And it’s one way people can attend the Green Meeting Industry Council’s 2012 Sustainable Meetings Conference in Montreal April 22-25.
Another way is to monitor the Twitter conversation by following @GMICconference and the #GMIC hashtag. But perhaps the most effective and engaging way is to experience it in person.
Last-minute registration is still open, and discounted flights are available on Air Canada and Porter Airlines from the conference site. Credits may be purchased at registration to offset the carbon emissions generated by travel.
The annual GMIC Sustainable Meetings Conference attracts international meeting professionals dedicated to realigning the events industry to established green meeting standards, like the APEX/ASTM Standards and BS 8901/ISO 20121.
Education will focus on integrating sustainable practices into every stage of event production, creating a system of measurements and reporting, implementing cutting-edge hybrid meeting technologies, and using gamification, alternative design strategies and other innovative concepts — many of which have been integrated into the conference’s design and attendee experience.
The Green Meeting Industry Council is a global community dedicated to sustainablility in the meetings and events industry, not only through education, but also by spearheading research, policy and standards. They have members in more than 20 countries.
Note: Plan Your Meetings has been a proud sponsor of their annual event since 2008.
