From the Beauty: We have all worked from our virtual offices creating, planning, negotiating and, at times, even sealing the deal. Technology is the tool that makes it happen, but to get the job done on-site we often have to rely on the business center, hotel concierge or our conference service manager to provide us with supplies and tools to complete our tasks. A major opportunity to rise to the occasion and to add a value service to your portfolio is to travel with an office on wheels, or as we affectionately call it, “The Gang Box.”
A well-organized Gang Box is a thing of beauty. It contains everyday business supplies that will come in handy during any program. It also includes items that can save you time and the client money. Use the list below, skillfully provided by Christy, and you have everything you need while on the road.
From the Brain: Every item on this list has been used by an attendee and comes with us to every show. The more obscure the item, the bigger the hero you’ll be for having it.
Wondering how to pack it all up? We use rolling bags that we found at a hobby store, designed to hold crafting supplies. We even had the cases branded with our corporate logo so we’re fully stocked, organized and look good at the same time! Here’s the list:
- Basic tool kit in a case
- Binder clips (some in each size)
- Breath mints
- Cigar cutter
- CDs to record presentations
- Clear nail polish
- Crazy glue
- Double-sided tape
- Duct tape
- Eye-glass repair kit
- FedEx envelopes and clear pouches
- First-aid kit
- Fishing wire
- Glue gun with glue sticks
- Jump drives (don’t expect to get them back)
- Laptop lock
- Level (pocket-sized)
- Lint roller
- Paper clips
- Polishing rag for awards
- Rubber bands
- Safety pins
- Scotch tape
- Sewing kit
- Stapler and staples
- Tent cards and pre-made ‘RESERVED, RESERVED for SPEAKER/RESERVED FOR PRESENTER cards.
- Three-hole punch (one that is large enough to punch more than four sheets at a time; otherwise you’ll spend all your time un-jamming it.)
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Two rolls of packing tape on dispensers
- Velcro (in rolls)
- Zip ties
You know your clients best, so customize your Gang Box to fit both their needs and yours. The key thing to keep in mind is that time is money, and on-site, time is always tight, so pack it now and be thankful you did it later.
