IBM recently gave new meaning to the phrase “virtual meeting.” The technology company held a seminar-style gathering inside the Internet-based 3-D world of Second Life. True to its name, Second Life promises a simulated space to interact with people, whether for play, business, shopping or just hanging out. Taking advantage of the world’s open nature, IBM arranged for participants from such diverse places as Afghanistan, South America, the U.S., Canada and Europe to meet at a specific time and place. Once assembled, participants discussed company projects, demonstrated software and practiced the Second Life skills needed to conduct future virtual meetings.
PYM @ MPI seeks to empower the people who make meetings happen by providing best practices education, helping them forge strong business partnerships with suppliers and find mentors in the industry. We firmly believe that meeting and event planners are the movie producers of the corporate world. Meetings move us. Meetings mean business. When we meet, we can change the world.
