Meeting Professionals International today named Paul Van Deventer its president and CEO, the top leadership role for the largest global meetings and events industry association. He begins work April 29.
Most recently, Van Deventer was a vice president in the health and wellness division of the drugstore chain Walgreens. He also has led the national sales and account management team for Walgreens Health Initiative, a $1 billion prescription benefit management subsidiary. Earlier in his career, he spent 22 years with American Express in various international and domestic capacities, including direct experience with the business travel and meetings/events sector.
As CEO, Van Deventer will be responsible for managing MPI’s operating budget, overseeing all membership programs and services, and working closely with MPI’s Board of Directors to guide the association’s vision and industry growth. He will also serve as liaison to the MPI Foundation, which is dedicated to advancing the meetings and event profession. MPI has more than 21,000 members in 71 chapters and clubs worldwide.
