Visit Peachtree City
Peachtree City, the golf cart capital of the world, is an award-winning master planned community that BusinessWeek magazine has called Georgia’s Best Affordable Suburb.
“We’re a family-friendly community because of our low crime rate and excellent schools, and Peachtree City also is an excellent site for business meetings,” said Nancy Price, executive director of the Peachtree City Convention and Visitors Bureau. “Our city is less than a half hour away from the world’s busiest airport, yet lacks Atlanta’s distractions and traffic challenges. We also have a regional airport that can accommodate small planes. It’s easy to get down to business here.”
Golf courses, lakes, parks
Conveniently located 26 miles south of Atlanta, the city of 34,364 residents offers resort-style living with three golf courses, two lakes, an award-winning tennis center, and indoor and outdoor aquatics centers. The Fayette County city also has numerous parks, baseball and soccer fields, and a BMX track.
Two conference centers and five hotels with 834 rooms total are available to serve business visitors as well as tourists. Peachtree City also has a 2,500-seat outdoor amphitheater — The Fred — that hosts national and touring acts all summer.
Hop on a golf cart!
Peachtree City, chartered in 1959, was developed into five villages, each with its own recreational facilities, shopping areas, and elementary schools. Residents traverse the city by way of a 90-mile wooded network of golf-cart and multi-use paths. In fact, more than 9,000 households own a golf cart and use them for extra transportation, while several businesses have specially designed golf-cart parking spaces. The Peachtree City Police Department even uses golf carts to patrol along the paths!
Peachtree City’s national reputation as a great place to live is evidenced by a multitude of honors: Family Circle magazine named it among the Top 10 Cities for Families in 2011 and CNN/Money Magazine has twice named it among the Top 10 Best Places to Live in the U.S.
Site of TV, movie making
Television and movie makers also are enamored of Peachtree City – Lifetime’s Drop Dead Diva show is taped in the city and the movies Sweet Home Alabama and Joyful Noise were partially filmed there.
“Georgia’s tax credit has been a big help in attracting film crews to our area,” Price said. “We like to think of ourselves as the Hollywood of the South.”
The Peachtree City Convention and Visitors Bureau, established in 2010, helps develop tourism and promote the city’s economic development. Its success in doing so earned the CVB a Bronze Level Benchmark of Excellence from the Georgia Association of Convention and Visitors Bureaus in 2011.
The Peachtree City CVB operates the Visitors Center at 201 McIntosh Trail, which shares space with the Frederick Brown Jr. Amplitheater’s box office.
