United Airlines, BCD Travel, Intel, and the team of Autodesk and Hertz have won 2014 awards for outstanding achievement in sustainability from GBTA and Project ICARUS. The awards recognize travel buyers, suppliers and intermediaries who demonstrate outstanding leadership, innovation and commitment to delivering best-in-class sustainability programs, products and services in North America. The winners:
Travel supplier: United Airlines
- Demonstrated a strong commitment from senior management, clear environmental/carbon savings metrics, future targets and comprehensive communications.
Travel intermediary: BCD Travel
- Recognized for its travel survival guide and “smart” videos, which help travelers balance the 3 P’s of sustainability (People, Planet and Profit).
Travel buyer: Intel
- Showed a strong commitment to the environment by developing a company guide to being green that embeds a range of activities in the process of planning and managing a meeting or event and the delivery of a substantial ROI.
Travel Team: Autodesk and the Hertz Corp.
- Working together, they increased the use of alternative fuel vehicles, overall MPG vehicle utilization and the use of Hertz 24/7 EVs. They also reduced fuel costs and lowered CO2 emissions.
Finalists included Wyndham Hotels (travel buyer) and Enterprise Holdings, Intercontinental Hotels Group and Starwood Hotels & Resorts (travel suppliers). Enterprise Holdings won an inaugural ICARUS award last year.
