BlackBerry still has the edge over the iPhone, at least when it comes to what meeting planners are using. A recent IMEX survey of social media, blog and smartphone usage among international meeting, incentive, convention and exposition planners at their Frankfurt exposition showed that 47 percent of the 625 respondents use a BlackBerry smartphone; 31 percent prefer iPhones and 24 percent use Nokia smartphones.
Nearly half those surveyed (46 percent) said their use of social media has increased over the past six months. Sixty-four percent of the planners are on LinkedIn, 60 percent use Facebook, and only 27 percent of the respondents are on Twitter, with YouTube use at 23 percent. Not surprisingly, 44 percent of respondents feel there are too many social networking sites to keep up with, and 83 percent fail to follow industry blogs.
