Did you know it’s a scientific fact that if you leave your earbuds lying around, they’ll get tangled? And there’s more! Chief AV Girl Midori Connolly is back with more tech-infused travel tips. Watch this short video and learn how to stay charged up and in-control on-site or in transit.
And don’t forget: If you’d like your very own pink cordlock, let Midori know in the comments section of this post, and she’ll send you one.
Hey guys it’s Midori, and I’m back with part two of “What goes in an AV Girl’s kit?” So did you know it actually is a scientific fact that if you leave any kind of cables, or cords or string — anything that has two ends — they will become tangled? Believe it or not, it’s a scientific fact. (I just read it in my Wired magazine.)
So what I do, if I need to get access to my ear buds quickly, is I put them in their own little Ziplock bag. The real trick, if you don’t want them to get tangled at all is to leave the 2 ends out of the bag. That will prevent the cords, or string or cable from getting tangled. If the two ends can’t meet, you can’t form a knot. So you can curl them up and put them in the bag and leave the two ends out, but then that’s kind of silly because then you have two ear buds sticking out. Or maybe even leave one end up or honestly just curl them up and they tend to stay untangled. So a quick little tip to help you keep your earbuds from getting all tangly and crazy (laughs).
Another thing I do with all of my equipment (and you may have noticed this) are these little smiley faces. In my household, we all have the same chargers, and I get really irritated when someone takes mine out of the wall (a-hem, husband!). So I put these goofy little smiley face stickers all over my equipment so there is no confusion (and he doesn’t like carrying around smiley face stickers on his electronic equipment).
So the other thing that’s made me a lot of friends at airports and conferences is that I carry with me my own power strips. So this is a very distinctive pink AV power supply. I actually had one stolen once. I guess the people liked the pink so much, they decided they needed one. So this one says: “I belong to Midori Connolly, she loves me very much, please return to her if you find her.” But this is a great thing to have because at the airport everyone’s fighting over those two outlets at the gate, so this is a great way to make six outlets for everyone to use. It’s a really wonderful thing to have and attached to it is an extension cord, becasue (you know) AV people love extension cords, we love power.
So that’s pretty much for my little kit. If you have any questions, you can always ask me and don’t forget, let us know if you’d like your own pink little cord lock, and we’ll be sure to send you one.
