What would you do if a conference you were scheduled to attend overseas was canceled two weeks before it began?
Most people would cancel the trip and grumble about it.
But PYM regulars Liz King, Dahlia El Gazzar and Aaron Kaufman, CSEP, aren’t most people. These meeting and event industry professionals decided to do something very different.
Within 24 hours of the event’s cancellation, King, El Gazzar and Kaufman sent out a press release announcing that they’d be repurposing many of the keynote speakers for a new experience they called Ctrl+Alt+Del (#ctrlaltdel).
#Ctrlaltdel will take place worldwide with a virtual event experience broadcast on Tuesday, Aug. 23, from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. ET with physical pop-up events in cities such as Amsterdam, London, San Diego, Toronto and New York, among others.
How did things come together so quickly?
“Event planners know how to hustle,” King says. “To be honest, I’ve been looking for ways to work with Aaron and Dahlia for a long time. We’ve discussed finding something that would unite our passion for the industry. When we found out about the cancellation, our first thoughts were, ‘What can we do?’ That’s what got us thinking and that’s how we decided to work together and create something historic and great.”
