Meeting, convention and event planning is one of the best jobs of 2012 and should see significant growth over the next decade, according to U.S. News and the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Each year, U.S. News compiles a list of the best careers based on the Labor Department’s employment projections. The bureau projects meeting, convention and event planner employment to grow 43.7 percent by 2020, adding 31,300 jobs. Planners’ salaries, it said, range from $27,090 to $76,840.
The Best Jobs of 2012, a list of the Top 25, were chosen based on favorable employment prospects and strong job satisfaction. Meeting, convention and event planners ranked 16th, sandwiched between paramedics (15th) and school counselors (17th). Registered nurses ranked No. 1.
Event planners, the report said, should be excellent at juggling tasks and highly flexible, especially when problems arise with vendors, clients make last-minute changes or a highly paid speaker locks himself or herself in a bathroom while wearing a live wireless mic. But you knew that, didn’t you?
