A 168-room Salamander Resort & Spa in Middleburg, Va., is 65 percent complete and on target to open in August 2013, company officials say.
To celebrate its progress, resort owner Sheila C. Johnson, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell and his wife, Maureen, recently held a reception that spotlighted eight state wineries.
The resort will feature 12,000 square feet of conference and event facilities, including a 5,000-sq. ft. ballroom and the restored 100-year-old Stallion Barn. It’s set on 340 acres amid horse country and vineyards but is only 30 minutes from Dulles International Airport in Washington, D.C. More than 50 wineries are within an hour’s drive.
The resort was designed to blend into its natural environment, is already registered for LEED certification and is accepting group bookings. Amenities include a spa, a full-service equestrian center with a 22-stall stable and practice ring, dining facilities, a dedicated cooking studio, wine bar and culinary garden.
