Working on-site at an event in Florida this week, one question has occurred to me repeatedly: When does the “service” in service charge begin, and where does it end?
Because a portion of that 22 percent usually goes to the Conference Services Manager (CSM), I have high expectations for the level of service I get from them, from the introduction through my last banqueting event. If you aren’t getting the level of cooperation you feel you deserve, you may want to think about the level of service you’re paying for.
I feel that we, as buyers, don’t make the hotel work hard enough to earn the 22 percent they charge us. It is a large chunk of our budgets, and I feel that we don’t see an equal return on this spend.
~ As a side note, I was in Beijing working the Olympics for Coca-Cola for 35 days this summer. I made of point of blogging almost every day.
